Agia
Marina….
Something for Everyone
Agia
Marina a delightful village situated on the northwest coast of Crete. Its long sandy beaches and crystal clear
waters makes this an ideal holiday location for young and old alike. Why not try jet-skiing, snorkelling,
brave a
para-flight, take a boat trip or just swim and soak up the sun and
relax.
Guests
to
this beautiful village, located just 9km from Crete’s former
capital Chania, will be greeted by its warm, friendly and hospitable
people. Agia Marina, as all of Crete, is
steeped in history and tradition. Sit
and talk with the people who will be only too delighted to tell you
some of the
stories that make Agia Marina and Crete what it is today.
Visit one or all of its four churches, each
different, each beautiful, you will not be disappointed.
Move
inland and discover its varied flora and fauna.
Explore caves, visit the nearby lake, walk among the olive
groves and
trek along the foothills of the Lefka Ora Mountains.
Discover the many ravines: Therissos
Gorge, Topolia and its mountainside
cave housing the small church of Agia Sofia and, for the more
adventurous,
Samaria Gorge. A paradise for nature
lovers and photography enthusiasts alike.
A
short distance to the east you will discover the charms of Chania and a
little
further on Rethymon, both boasting picturesque Venetian harbours. To the west the fishing village of Kolimbari
and it’s monastery. The town of Kastelli
nestled between two peninsulas. The
enchanting 16th century village of Milia
its buildings constructed of stone and
wood. With each twist and turn of the
road you will wonder at the ever-changing scenery.
Ride
out for the day on a scooter, motorbike or rent a car.
Explore the many small villages each unique,
partake in refreshments at a local Kafenio.
Organised excursions and day trips are plentiful.
Why not hop on one of the many small trains,
the local inexpensive bus service or simply walk into the old village
where old
and new buildings sit side-by-side.
In
the evenings relax at one of Agia Marina’s many family run tavernas,
sample
traditional Cretan cuisine renowned as one of the world’s healthiest
diets. Sit back and watch the
spectacular sunset at a beachside café or restaurant. Taste the local Raki or wine while the
children play in the specially provided playgrounds within the grounds
of many
tavernas.
Nightclubs,
cocktail bars, music bars are all available for your entertainment and
pleasure. Enjoy an evening of Cretan
dancing and music. Look around the many
shops offering handcrafted goods and souvenirs, open from early morning
until
late in the evening; as are the supermarkets and other facilities
available for
your convenience.
At the end of your holiday you, like so many before, will want to come back, possibly even stay. Each visit will offer something new, something different, a unique holiday experience. Agia Marina…. something for everyone.
